A clash between officers of the Nigerian Police and civilians ensued on Sunday at Jattu road on Sunday in Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

Eyewitnesses say, trouble began when an okada man who was carrying 2passengers tried to dodge a traffic warder at Jattu Junction ran into a truck on the highway and was crushed to death on the spot.

It was gathered that though the passengers survived the accident, witnesses to the confrontation between the traffic police and the bike man became enraged to the point of engaging the police in a brutal fight but reinforcement from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Auchi were there in time to rescue their officers and repel protesters who at the time have crowded the BEDC Business axis as at the time of the clash.
Dead Okada man covered in the accident scene

An anonymous bike rider stated, "the yellow fever police for that junction no get human feeling. How you go see say Motor jam person wey you pursue, you wan still arrest people wey he carry? Na the thing wey pain everybody wey we come out say make we stand for our person wey Dem kill but before you know, police don full ground begin dey shoot guns and teargas everywhere..."
He said.

What is unclear here is the dead man's place of origin, offence and the officer involved in the imbroglio as all attempts at getting the police side of the story as at the time of filing this report proved abortive.

More on the story will be unravelled in due course.
