3rd Edition of Iyekhei Sports Festival has come to an end after climaxing into a 5kilometer race from Madatse to Sharp Corner on Friday.

Organizers, Athletes as well as fans of the sporting competition that started November 15th, 2020 can now heave a sigh of relief after a stream of breathtaking events that saw families competing against each other for the Gold Spot in what has culminated into a Sports Festival in Iyekhei Community of Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

The family of Osigwe emerged winners in the football category through a penalty shootout where they converted their 6penalty kicks to goals against their rival, Aimeonikhare. Team Aimeonikhare came in hard but where only able to find the back of the net 5times out of 6strikes giving Osigwe a good footing to clinch the Gold Medal as Champions of ISF2020.

The event which was held at Ekhei Primary School was officially declared open by the Odwevho of Auchi Sacred Kingdom who on behalf of HRH Alhaji H.A. Momoh promised unflinching support for the discovery and spotlighting of talents in sports and appealed for justice and fairness in the modus operandi of the organizers if success must be attained. The Otaru’s Secretary and CEO of Danish Cuisines, Alhaji Yahaya was awarded and decorated an outstanding youth of Auchi Sacred City for his contribution to community development and humanitarian services to the less privileged.

Furthermore, fans and players were agreed that though the competition which was keenly contested had drawbacks, it has been a better outing for all in comparison to previous sports festivals in the area. They appealed for more sponsors and better footballing atmosphere for the athletes to thrive in their endeavor.

At the dawn of the new year 2021, all road led to Madatse for the marathon.

The young, old, boys and ladies made their way to the marathon both for fun and to compete in the 5kilometer race that ended in Sharp Corner. Abdurakib came 1st, Ehis clinched the 2nd place while Umoru Azeez came 3rd in the main event. Mis Hikmah took gold in the female category while Mrs. Fatimah Faruk followed just behind her to take 2nd as Chief Zibiri Yahaya Atokina (Tomo of Iyekhei) emerged the 1st in the elderly category.

Speaking on the outcome of the activities that marked the 3rd Edition of Iyekhei Festival, Abdulwahab, the chairman of the organizing committee thanked all for the support they enjoyed to see the competition through from start to finish. He appealed to Iyekhei Sons and Daughters both at home and in Diaspora to lend more support to the sporting programme so as to make subsequent outings better for the athletes who are poised at making a career off Football and others sporting events.

Abdulrakib otherwise known as Ranki while speaking to AUCHI BLOG stated emphatically that he had prepared and worked very hard to win the 5kilometer race. He came 2nd during the 2nd Edition of the competition in 2019 and made a promise to himself that he will not rest until he wins the next which has truly come to fruition in the cause of the 3rd Edition.

Ranki & Ehis

…the only place where success comes before hard work is in the dictionary. I told them but they didn’t listen. Today I have realized my 1st goal.

I want to appreciate the organizers and plead that our people should invest in sports because we are here to do well and bring home medals.” He said.

Saliu Irega Adedi, a member of the sports body appreciated sponsors and supporters of the events and promised a better outing. He called on Big Taste, Danish Cuisines, Hassan Building Materials, Central Diagnostics as well as the Otaru of Auchi, thanking them for ensuring the success recorded and encouraged them to continue the good work of empowering youths through sports.

It is hoped that the year 2021 will record a better outing as all actors are optimistic that the limiting hands of COVID-19 that affected turnout will be flattened to engender a better Iyekhei Sports Fest 4th Edition as the year rolls by.

ISF2020 was organized by Auchi Dynamic Youths Zone E (Iyekhei) and AUCHI BLOG was there every step of the way to bring everyone both far and near up to speed on the sporting activities.
