Some sort of drama ensued on Monday at Uchi Market in
Auchi Sacred Kingdom between Okada Riders and Market women and this brought
about a bitter confrontation between the duo.
Problem started when a portion of the road leading
into the market from the I.C.E/Cemetery axis became so bad to the extent that
women selling in the area were beginning to find it difficult to use the road
for their daily activities. They decided to contract an Aboki to help sand-fill
the parts that have been eroded and savage the muddy pot-holes therein.
In anticipation of the work, the women according to
one of the marketers in the area had contacted some familiar bike riders using
same route to collaborate in bettering the road. This arrangement however, didn’t
yield any positive response from the bike riders as they refused to pay a dime
to get the bad portion done in view of fees that have been levied against them through
sales of tickets.
Notwithstanding, the women were able to contribute 1 thousand Naira, give same to an Aboki who did the job to a point where/when he demanded for extra 5 hundred Naira to finish the work. At this point the women decided to foot the bill but with a resolve to block bike riders from taking the route into Uchi Market.
The aforementioned however led to an altercation
between some bike men and market women in the area for a long while before tension
finally died down after what seemed to have been a war of words.
“this road na all of us dey use am. Because say
rain done dey fall well well and portor-portor don gather for where no good,
customers no dey fit waka reach us like before. Na e make we con say make we gather
contribute small thing for Abonki make he pack san-san take cover am.
If you look well you go see say okada people seff dey
use the road nae make we say make dem too put hand for the matter make the work
quick but as you dey see so dem no wan help us na e make we say dem no go use the
road wey we suffer repair because monkey no go dey work make baboon come sidan
dey enjoy the better we monkey don do…” explained one of the women on the scene who doesn’t wish
to be mentioned.
In a counter-claim, Raphael, an Okada man stated that
it is the responsibility of relevant authorities in charge of collecting/generating
revenue from the market to make repairs when the need be.
“I no go lie you my brother, I no go fit pay for
say road no good. We go dey use am like that. Imagine say I dey pay tax to
government come buy many many tickets and still, person go come say make I pay
money make them take do road. Make you check am na.
Truth no say make person no talk am o. this women dem
try but the question be say, the money wey government people dey come collect
for this market na for weytin? Make you seff reason am. E no just make sense. My
own be say, government need to come do this market make market women dey fit
shade well as rains don dey disturb them.” He said.
AUCHI BLOGspot is hereby calling on relevant authorities at local
government and community levels to look into the Uchi Market situation in all
it ramifications in view of savaging the age-long decay that has festered
therein.
