The Rotary Club of Auchi Metropolitan District 9141 has held her in-house handing over ceremony on Saturday in view of the oncoming 1st of July which marks the beginning of her new year and the expiration term of the outgoing District 9141 Exco.

The occasion was held at Meremu Hotel in Auchi Sacred Kingdom to mark the last official function of the outgoing Rotrn. Abdulrasheed Obomeghie-led regime having successfully completed his term in office.

In his opening remark, chairman of the organizing committee, Rotrn. Sado Yekini PHF+ stated that the event though low-keyed is a reflection of what is to come on the 5th of September. He explained that the reason for the low key in-house handing over was to engender some sort of cooperation with the measures spelt out by the NCDC in regards to covid-19 and promised that what is sure to happen is that the outgoing president will be performing his last official assignment by handing over to the president elect as well as present entrepreneurship materials to beneficiaries.

The outgoing president Rotrn. Abdulrasheed Obomeghie PHF+ informed the house that having successfully led the club to the expiration of his term in collaboration with his exco and members of District 9141, his administration was able to scale up membership by above 60% while retaining the members he met in the club. He informed the house that only two members were lost in the course of his tenure _one to death and the other by necessity.

Rotrn. Abdulrasheed O. PHF+ Outgoing President

“when we started this year, we said we were not going to lose any member. _that we were going to retain our members as well as add value. I’m pleased to say that no member of the club with the exemption of the one who left out of necessity and another who left as a result of death, has left… in the aspect of public image we said we were going to work on ourselves. Take a look at the faces of every Rotarian here today, I don’t think there’s anyone that is not proud of being a member of the club, we also said we were going to change the perception of people about us and to do this we said we would drive the process through our public services and projects. Luckily for us, members have been participating and projects that have driven the image of this club have been carried out. Project that weren’t ordinarily possible in one single year have been done in this year. Among them is the Borehole project at Egelesor, Utsogun quarters. That project was done at a cost of 3million Naira. ..For the very first time the health week was also hosted by the family of Rotary club in Auchi. It has never happened before in the history of Edo North. To make it swaggalicious we chose to host the event in Auchi and in Ayua….” He said.

5 beneficiaries were empowered with a grinding machine each with which to help startup a business and cater for their immediate families. This, Rotrn. Yekini Sado said was the reason behind the creation and promotion of the club _to give. The beneficiaries who are indigents from Auchi Sacred Kingdom were beyond elated as they never thought they would be given such items for free in the current reality on ground. This they expressed in their appreciation.

Salamun Alaikum all, you have all done well. May God reward you all. May God multiply the source from which these items have been provided. May you not experience backwardness. I pray to God that come next year, you’ll do greater things for us in Auchi. May more doors of success be open to you all for having people like us at heart. Let it be known that from this day, all your challenges will subside…” Prayed one of the beneficiaries having received her grinding machine.

High point of the event was the official handing over of the mantle, staff of leadership and certificate of office from the outgoing president Rotrn. Abdulrasheed to Rotrn. Abubakar Idris. Is was not without some drama which added colour to the event in the Rotary way, that a rare moment of serious Rotary business appealed to even the hardest of hearts as Abdulrasheed PHF+ adorned Abubakar with the staff of office as his last official duty for the 2019/2020 Rotarian Year.

While appreciating God for a fulfilled year that has culminated into the event, Rotrn. Abubakar Idris told AUCHI BLOGspot that being a Rotarian breeds fulfillment.

“I feel great. When I joined rotary 4 years ago, it was because I saw what they were doing around the world. That is what actually motivated me to say I’m going to join the club. I joined rotary and I have been trying to see how I can help people and today I think in trying to do that I was recognized as one of the major participants of this club and was nominated for president which has climaxed into today’s event.”

He promised that together with his team of exco, the club is going to record more achievements in his administration by carrying on with the selfless services of Rotary Club and bring in more members in the her folds.

The longest serving member of The Rotary Club of Auchi Metropolitan District 9141, Rotrn. Sado Yekini in an interaction with AUCHI BLOGspot stated that Auchi Sacred Kingdom being his home and place of primary assignment has in no small measure benefitted from the activities of the club since its creation in the district. Being a progressive minded person and a development agent, he has contributed a lot to ensure that Auchi benefits so much in many areas.

“I’m still one of the oldest active chattered members of the club after fifteen years. Incidentally, our club was 14years yesterday. My contribution has been enormous because for each of the leader that comes, I try as much as possible to give them the needed support for them to succeed. Rotary is a volunteering NGO where you’re not compelled to do, but you do what you feel gives you passion and joy. What is that? Service to humanity, putting smiles of people’s faces as well as acting as a bridge between the rich and the poor. We don’t have it all but with our network we can pull in resources with which to get from the rich and empower the poorest.

In Auchi a lot of activities and projects have been carried out. Medically, in 2009 Rotary brought in 14doctors from India with different multidisciplinary aspects. That single medical mission gave rise to the Rotary Eye Center in the Central Hospital. Then 2years later they came specifically for eye-service. Again on a project we call Gift of Life, I am proud to tell the world that we have been able to take 5 indigent Children from Auchi to India for Corrective Heart Surgery of the Hole in the Heart. Without that correction, their chances of living was minimum. We have done 5 in Auchi between the year 2010 (while I was the president) till now. We have given wheelchairs to the disabled. In October when we were celebrating the World Polio Day, we gave out 20 wheelchairs and in a couple of weeks we are going to give out motorized wheelchairs. Again in the area of Education and Literacy, Water and Sanitation, we also sank a borehole in Egelesor and it serves that community. Go to Uzanu we also have a borehole project at the Maternity center Uzanu. We’ve been able to give Exercise books to schools, we’ve been able to give scholarships to indigent students and a lot more. All these translates into humanity and when you do this, honestly, you sleep with joy in your heart.

Rotrn. Yekini Sado PHF+

The 5 indigent women that were empowered today can be multiplied by 10 because those women have families and touching the life of one is as good as touching the lives of ten. In summary we’ve been able to touch the lives of 50persons today. Over time we’ve been able to give micro-credits to women too because we felt, just like when you say, educate a woman, you educate a nation, if a woman if empowered the pressure on the husband becomes very low and life becomes much easier and cordial for both of them. Those women were selected from the community and we felt we should do this. Doing it today, we are fulfilled” he said.

The war against polio ambassador also stated that it is a thing of joy that Nigeria is being excluded from the list of countries with polio after a long war well fought.
